An Update from Dr. Jake Long, Superintendent

Bomber Community,

Last night we hosted a Facebook Live event to provide some back-to-school updates for our families. If you did not get a chance to view that, here’s a link to a KTLO article that gives some of the highlights. The article also has a link to a recording of the event if you’d like to watch it. There’s some valuable information in it.

I wanted to make a couple notes that will be relevant over the next week:

  1. Open House is 1-7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12. In order to reduce the number of patrons in our buildings at one time, Open House will be conducted by appointment.

  • If your children are in grades K-5, you should have received a letter from their teachers with appointment information. If you did not receive a letter, please contact your child’s school on Monday or Tuesday.

  • If your children are in grades 6-12, their academic advisor (similar to a homeroom teacher) will contact you on Monday (or before) to schedule an appointment for Open House. The procedures for checking out textbooks and Chromebooks differ at each building and will be explained to you during Open House.

  1. BVA Orientation will be held August 16 and must be attended by at least one parent/guardian. If your child has been approved as a BVA student this year, an orientation invitation with more information has gone out in the mail to you today.

  1. Late this morning, Pulaski County Circuit Judge Tim Fox blocked the state from enforcing the ban on mask mandates. I do not have any additional information at this time about what that means for MHPS, but I expect to get that clarity next week. Until then I am going to continue to follow the Arkansas Department of Health and our local medical advice and request our students and staff wear masks while indoors when distancing is not possible.

Thank you for your support and cooperation,

Dr. Jake Long
